BREAKING: Mayor Frey Melts Down As DHS Calls Minneapolis ICE Shooting Domestic Terrorism

Published

on

Minneapolis erupted into political theater on Wednesday as Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey demanded that the federal government cease all immigration enforcement operations in the city following a deadly encounter during an ICE operation.

Yet the facts of the incident paint a very different picture than the one Frey is aggressively promoting.

According to federal sources, a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot a 37‑year‑old woman after she attempted to weaponize her vehicle against law enforcement. The Department of Homeland Security publicly characterized this act as “an act of domestic terrorism.”

The agent, according to DHS, fired defensive shots to protect his life and the safety of fellow officers and the public.

Mayor Frey, however, launched into an unrestrained attack, accusing the Trump administration and federal agents of “sowing chaos” and “ripping families apart.” He insisted that ICE’s presence in Minneapolis had been a long‑feared problem and declared in no uncertain terms: “Get the fuck out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here.”

Frey’s rhetoric did not reflect the reality that an officer was responding to a violent threat, but rather framed the federal presence as intrinsically harmful to the city.

Frey went further, dismissing claims of self‑defense after watching video of the encounter. “That is bullshit,” he said, insisting the shooting was reckless rather than a lawful reaction to a life‑threatening attack.

This dismissal disregards key details reported by law enforcement and federal officials.

Fox 9 News reported that multiple law enforcement agencies responded when shots were fired. U.S. officials explained via social media that the ICE officers were conducting “targeted operations” when “rioters began blocking ICE officers,” and that one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to kill federal agents.

The DHS statement went on to clarify that the officer acted fearing for his life—a crucial fact that the mayor chose to ignore in his public condemnation.

President Trump himself weighed in on the incident in strong terms. In a Truth Social post, the president called the footage “a horrible thing to watch” and described the driver’s behavior as “violent, willful, and vicious.”

He reiterated that the ICE officer was acting in self‑defense. The president also praised the agent’s survival, noting that it was “hard to believe he is alive” after the violent collision yet that he is now recovering in the hospital.

In his response, Trump explicitly tied the broader context of the shooting to rising assaults on law enforcement by radical left elements. “The reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis,” he wrote. “We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!”

Additional visual evidence associated with the case — including footage posted on X—shows the moment a vehicle attempted to strike federal agents.

Supplemental images show a bullet hole in the front windshield of the woman’s car, a stark indicator of the threat posed to the officer and those around him. These visual details underscore the immediacy of the danger faced by the ICE agent.

Despite the chaotic scenes and political posturing, federal officials framed the encounter in sober terms as a defensive act under threat of violence. DHS’s description made clear: “An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement, and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots.”

That reality stands in sharp contrast to the narrative pushed by Mayor Frey and other local Democrats, who seek to cast federal enforcement as the cause of disorder rather than the response to it.

The mayor’s remarks did not stop at criticism of ICE’s actions. He claimed that long‑term Minneapolis residents were being “terrorized,” families were being “ripped apart,” and that the federal agents do not create safety in America.

These sweeping statements ignore not only the actual events of the day but also the fundamental role of law enforcement in confronting violent threats.

In calling for ICE to leave Minneapolis, Mayor Frey revealed a political posture that prioritizes anti‑federal posturing over the protection of life and public safety. His remarks followed a familiar pattern among some left‑wing city leaders who condemn the federal government even as violent actors threaten officers and citizens alike.
